In the ruins of a bombed out classroom, students attend a class. These student s are from refugee families returning to the ruins of "Penjwin" (probably Panjw in) after fighting subsided. Two million Kurds from Iraqi Kurdistan fled their villages in northern Iraq for refugee camps when the uprising against Saddam Hussein failed after the gulf war. Penjwin, a city of 100,000 on the Iran-Iraq border, was d estroyed by Iraqi forces twice, once in 1978 and again in 1983. It was also ca ught in the middle of the Iraq/Iran war.
